Snow Creek - Weekend Wanderer

Today I went to Snow Creek with my son and grand daughter. It’s a little Creek just off Highway 27 above Hector. It reminds me of the creeks in Newton County and home.

As a child, the only swimming pool we swam in was a creek. Many trips were made each summer to Hurricane Creek, just a few miles down the dirt road from my house. We’d load in the back of a truck, some sitting on fenders, others on the tailgate and off we’d go, cousins and all, to the swimming hole. The water was always cool and refreshing and our diving board was a gigantic rock in the middle of the Creek. Those were the good ole days. Now back to Snow Creek.

We stopped by Sonic so we could have a little picnic on our beach towels before getting in the creek. The water was flowing and there were small rapids throughout the creek. The rocks were slippery and we fell a few times as we crossed to our picnic area.

After playing and splashing for quite awhile, we decided to drive a dirt road to a different part of the creek. We stayed until thunder, the threat of lightning, and raindrops came pelting from the sky. it was a great day spent with my kiddos.

So, if you’re looking for a place to get away for a swim and picnic, I highly recommend Snow Creek. Warning, no cell service, just you, God and nature.
