Road Trip, Best Burger & Pie

Updated: Oct 8, 2020

A drive to Oark, Arkansas is a beautiful drive in the Fall or actually any time of the year.

Oark is a little community out in the middle of nowhere with a school and a couple of restaurants. People drive from near and far to visit the Oark Cafe. It is known for its burgers and many choices of delicious pie. (Apple, Peach, Pecan, Blueberry & Buttermilk are just a few.) The cafe is housed in an old store and the interior is one of nostalgia, taking you back many years.

Due to the Corona Virus, the cafe was not accessible on the day we visited. Orders were placed on the front porch. Ample seating was available under the newly constructed pavilion.

Everyone we met that day was so friendly, just out enjoying the beautiful weather and countryside.

This particular day was the day for Ferrari's.

We left Oark and traveled along the Mulberry River, stopping to take a few pictures here and there. One particular place we stopped was an old church along a dirt road. I love old churches. We went inside and took a few pictures. Pews, a couple hymnals, and a podium remained. Dirt Dobbers were the only indication of life. The place where voices once rang out with hymns like Amazing Grace, Victory in Jesus, and The Old Rugged Cross, now stood abandoned. I questioned in my mind, "Are the people who once brought this church to life, now resting in the adjacent cemetery?"

Sadly, people pass away, people move away and life goes on leaving only remnants and memories.

The next time you get a hankering for a country drive, check out the back roads of Arkansas. Take a scenic drive to Oark along the Mulberry River. Be aware of your surroundings, stop and take pictures. Enjoy this great Natural State of Arkansas.
